French Prez Hollande in India on two-day visit;trade,nuclear energy to dominate talks

India and France will hold talks on ways to enhance strategic partnership between the two countries during the French President Francois Hollande's visit to New Delhi which began today. The two-day visit is likely to be dominated by trade issues and nuclear energy agreements. The French President will hold delegation level talks with Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh this afternoon. Earlier in the day, the visiting dignitary will be accorded a Guard of Honour at Rashtrapati Bhavan. He will visit Rajghat to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi.
Hollande will meet Nobel laureate and renowned economist Amartya Sen and honour him with Commandeur de la legion d’Honneur tomorrow. Later, he will visit Mumbai to participate in a business conference.
Our correspondent reports, relations between the two countries are rooted in strong historical foundations and shared values. With upgradation of the relationship to strategic partnership in 1998, Indo-French relationship has become multifaceted and symbiotic in areas such as defence, civil nuclear energy, space and counter terrorism.
