French Open Tennis: Rohan Bopanna crosses 1st- round in men's doubles

In French Open Tennis, Rohan Bopanna crossed the first- round hurdle in men's doubles but Sania Mirza bowed out in the opening round of the women's doubles event in Paris today. Bopanna along with his Uruguayan partner Pablo Cuevas outplayed the French duo of Mathias Bourgue and Paul-Henri Mathieu , posting a comfortable 6-1, 6-1 victory. They will next take on Treat Huey and Denis Istomin.However, fourth seeded pair of Sania Mirza and Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan were stunned by unseeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia and Australia's Daria Gavrilova 6-7, 6-1, 2-6 . It was a hard fought match that lasted 2 hours and 23 minutes. Later tonight, Leander Paes with his American partner Scott Lipksy willl take on Marcos Baghdatis and Gilles Muller in their first round match. Divij Sharan and Purav Raja will take on Nicolas Almagro from Spain and Steve Johnson from the USA in another doubles match. Meanwhile, 12th seeded Wilfred Tsonga of France crashed out of the tournament today after defeat in the men's singles. Sixth seed Dominic Theim of Austria and 10th seed David Gaffin of Belgium, however, reached the third round of men's singles today. In women's singles, Venus Williams of the USA reached the third round along with her compatriot Bethani Matek Sandes and Samantha Stosur of Australia.
