Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza and her Russian partner Elena Vesnina have qualified to the second round of the women's doubles event at the on-going French Open in Paris. At the Roland Garros yesterday, the Indo-Russian combine defeated the Russian pair of Vera Dushevina and Ekaterina Makarova in straight sets 7-6, 6-2. The seventh-seeded Indo-Russian duo will next face the German-Swede pair of Kristina Barrois and Johanna Larsson. Kristina and Johanna defeated the American duo of Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 in the first round. Earlier, Sania had also entered the second round of the women's singles competition. She will play 12th seed Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland in that event. India's Somdev Devvarman has crashed out in the first round of the men's singles event at the French Open. He suffered a 4-6, 3-6, 4-6 defeat on Tuesday at the hands of the World No. 37 Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia.
