French Open: Rohan Bopanna-Gabriela Dabrowski storm into semifinals

In the French Open Tennis Tournament, Rohan Bopanna and his Canadian partner Gabriela Dabrowski stormed into the semifinals of the mixed doubles event at the French Open with a straight-set win over Sania Mirza and Ivan Dodig of Croatia in Paris yesterday.The Bopanna-Dabrowski pair, seeded seventh, defeated the second-seeded Sania-Dodig pair 6-3, 6-4 in the 52-minute quarterfinals contest that involved two Indians. Bopanna is the only Indian left in the fray in the Grand Slam tournament. With this loss, Sania's campaign ended in the tournament. In the Men's Singles, top-ranked Andy Murray entered the quarterfinals defeating Russia's Karen Khachanov 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 in the pre-quarter finals. Murray will next play eighth-seeded Kei Nishikori. In another encounter, Kei Nishikori of Japan beat Fernando Verdasco of Spain 0-6, 6-4, 6-4.Third seed and 2015 champion Stan Wawrinka too reached the quarter-finals defeating Gael Monfils 7-5, 7-6, 6-2. Wawrinka is through to the last eight at Roland Garros for the fourth time. The Swiss goes on to face Croatian seventh seed Marin Cilic for a spot in the semi-finals.In the Women's Singles, Elina Svitolina of Ukraine enter the quarterfinals defeating Petr Martic of Croatia 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 in the pre-quarterfinals. In another Women's Singles match, Simona Halep of Romania beat Carla Squarez-Navarro of Spain in a streight set 6-1, 6-1. In the Women's Doubles, Russian pair of Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina beat Spanish-Slovakian pair of Jose Martinez and Andreja Klepac 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the pre-quarter finals.
