French Open: Rafael Nadal advances to men's Singles 2nd round

In French Open Tennis, defending champion and second seed Rafael Nadal advanced to the Men's Singles second round. The eleven time French Open champion beat Y Hanfmann 6-2, 6-1, 6-3. 

In the first upset of the day, 12th seed D. Medvedev was beaten by  unseeded P. Herbert in a five setter 6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 2-6, 5-7.  In another five-setter today unseeded M. Kecmanovic beat D. Kudla.

Top seed Novak Djokovic will begin his campaign later today. In Women's Singles first round, unseeded V. Kudermetova upset 13th seed C. Wozniacki 0-6,6-3,6-3.

On the opening day of the second Grand Slam of the season yesterday, third seeded Roger Federer, K.Nishikori and M.Cilic crossed the first hurdles. In Women's Singles, German fifth seed Angelique Kerber was ousted by Russian teenager Anastasia Potapova.

Prajnesh Gunneswaran who was the only Indian in Men's Singles, lost to H.Dellien of Bolivia in the opening round.

Indians figuring in the Doubles are Leander Paes, Rohan Bopanna, Divij Sharan and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan, but they will be playing with separate partners and are slated to play opening round matches tomorrow.
