It was a disastrous day for India at the French Open Tennis Championship in Paris yesterday. The Indian campaign in the Men's Doubles came to an end as Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna, with their partners, crashed out of the tournament in the Mixed Doubles opening round itself. In the Men Doubles second round, the ninth seeded Indo-Austrian pair of Leander Paes and Jurgen Melzer went down fighting to Argentine Horacio Zeballos and his team-mate from Uruguay, Pablo Cuevas, 7-5, 4-6, 6-7. Earlier, the Indian duo of Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna had bowed out of the competition. In the Mixed Doubles opening round, the seventh seeded Indo-Australian pair of Mahesh Bhupathi and Casey Dellacqua lost to the Mexican-Aussie team of Santiago Gonzalez and Anastasia Rodionova 4-6, 6-1, 9-11, while the Indo-Aussie pair of Rohan Bopanna and Ashleigh Barty went down to the Czech duo of Frantisek Cermak and Lucie Hradecka, 4-6, 4-6. India's hopes now rest on Leander Paes in Mixed Doubles and Sania Mirza in the Women's Doubles categories.
