French Open: Federer reaches fourth round, Pliskova crashes out

In Tennis, world number two Karolina Pliskova has made a shock third round exit at the French Open, the second Grand Slam of the season, in Paris. The Czech, who was the semi-finalist in 2017, lost to world number 31 Petra Martic of Croatia, 3-6, 3-6.

Ukrainian ninth seed Elina Svitolina also crashed out after losing to 19th placed Garbine Muguruza of Spain, 3-6, 3-6.

Defending champion Rafael Nadal, third seed Roger Federer, Kei Nishikori and Sloane Stephens were among those who advanced to the pre-quarterfinals.

In Men's Doubles, Rohan Bopanna and his Romanian team-mate Marius Copil progressed to the Round-of-16, beating the French team of Benjamin Bonzi and Antoine Hoang, 6-4, 6-4.

The Indo-French team of Leander Paes and Benoit Paire advanced to the second round.

However, Divij Sharan and his Brazilian partner Marcelo Demoliner made an early exit.
