French Open: Clara Tauson defeats Jennifer Brady in opening round of women's singles

In French Open Tennis, teenage Danish qualifier Clara Tauson defeated 21st seed Jennifer Brady of America 6-4 3-6 9-7 in the opening round of Women's Singles. The 17-year-old Tauson, making her main draw debut in Grand Slams with a ranking of 188, played fearless tennis to edge out the recent US Open semi-finalist. Tauson won the Australian Open junior title last year.

In another Women's Singles match, Czech second seed Karolina Pliskova beat Egyptian qualifier Mayar Sherif 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 in the opening round of the tournament. In the second round, former world number one Pliskova will meet Jelena Ostapenko who secured her first French Open victory since lifting the trophy in 2017 after defeating American Madison Brengle 6-2, 6-1.

In Men's Singles, three weeks after an acrimonious exit at the US Open, world number one Novak Djokovic has resumed his bid for a second French Open title and 18th Grand Slam title as he takes on Sweden's Mikael Ymer in the first round at the French Open. The match is currently underway.

Newly-crowned Hamburg champion Andrey Rublev, seeded 13, is playing against American Sam Querrey. The match is also currently underway.

Earlier, Seventh seed Matteo Berrettini of Italy also won before rain suspended play on the outside courts. The 2019 US Open semi-finalist defeated Canadian Vasek Pospisil 6-3, 6-1, 6-3.
