Andy Murray began his French Open campaign yesterday with a straight-sets win over Argentina's Facundo Arguello at Roland Garros. The third seeded Briton won 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 to reach the second round of the tournament. Murray will now face Canada's Vasek Pospisil or Joao Sousa of Portugal later this week. Fourth seed Czech Tennis player Tomas Berdych also stormed into the second round by thrashing Japanese qualifier Yoshihito Nishioka 6-0, 7-5, 6-3. Gilles Simon of France also reached second round by defeating compatriot Lucas Pouille 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-4. In Women's singles, second seed Maria Sharapova of Russia advanced to the second round by defeating Estonian Kaia Kanepi in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. Venus Williams suffered early exit as she was beaten 7-6, 6-1 by fellow American Sloane Stephens in the first round. Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, David Ferrer and Serena Williams will play their first round matches today.
