French government calls for extension of state of emergency

French Government has called for a three-month extension of the state of emergency declared in the wake of the November 13 terrorist attacks in Paris. Government spokesman today said the state of emergency is useful in the fight against terrorism as the threat of further attacks remains extremely high.<br/><br/>The state of emergency has already been extended once and is scheduled to end on February 26. The UN panel had urged the Government not to extend the emergency powers beyond the February deadline.
