Freedom day was celebrated in Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh today. It was on this day in 1942 when Ballia was freed from the clutches of British rule by the freedom fighters under the leadership of Chittu Pandey. He was declared as the District Magistrate of Ballia.The freedom fighters had cut all the ways leading to Ballia to prevent Britishers from entering the city. The chaos continued for several days after which the uprising was brutally supressed by the British rulers. Seminars were held and the people paid rich tributes to the martyrs of freedom struggle.
