Free traffic flow in Manipur after blockade lifts

In Manipur, several goods laden trucks which were stranded on the national highways began to move into the state freely. This follows the United Naga Council’s decision to lift the economic blockade along the two national highways from this morning. AIR correspondent reports that the decision to lift the economic blockade was taken after the assurance given by the Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram on the vexed Sadar Hills issue. Mr. Chidambaram’s verbal assurance was followed by a written assurance from the Ministry of Home Affairs that came to the UNC on the 24th of this month. With the lifting of the economic blockade, after more than 100 days, the people of Manipur are heaving a sigh of relief.
