Over 65 lakh students in 62,503 schools of Assam will get free text books by January 2nd, next year. This was informed by State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma at Guwahati.Three crore, thirty lakh books are being readied in printing presses for free distribution among the students.Circle-level Committees in each of the revenue circles have been constituted for smooth distribution of the text-books in schools.Circle officers, teachers, social activists and student organizations are being made members in these Committees.The State Government has also taken a scheme to provide annual financial assistance for literary, cultural and sports development activities in 4,000 high schools and 200 colleges of the state from the next financial year beginning from April, 2012. Under the scheme, colleges will get four lakh rupees and schools, one lakh rupees annually.The state Government has also announced earmarking of an amount of 400 crore rupees to provide financial assistance to non-government-aided school teachers.
