Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley today said free speech is an aid to good governance. Delivering Sardar Patel Memorial lecture 2015 organised by All India Radio in New Delhi, Mr Jaitley said right of free speech and expression has been widened with the ever growing social media. <br/><br/>In his hour long lecture, Mr Jaitley touched upon many aspects of print, electronic and social media. Saying social media is a powerful tool, Mr Jaitley however said it is an unregulated medium. Describing paid news as a reality, Mr Jaitley said there is now two varieties of news one is actual news and the other is channel driven news.<br/><br/>Paying tributes to Sardar Patel, Mr Jaitley said the country owes its present geography to the Iron Man. A recording of Mr Jaitley's speech would be broadcast by AIR on October 31st, the birthday of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first Information and Broadcasting minister of the country.
