Initial results from the first round of the French regional elections indicate that President Nicolas Sarkozy’s Centre Right allies are heading for defeat.<br/><br/>The results suggest that the socialists are expected to emerge as the largest single party. It is the last nationwide vote before presidential and parliamentary elections due in 2012.<br/>
