France warns Gbagbo to quit presidentship of Ivory Coast

The Foreign Minister of France has warned that time is running out for Laurent Gbagbo to make an honourable exit as President of Ivory Coast. The French Minister said she believes such an outcome was still possible if Gbagbo would accept he had lost the election. Earlier this week France, Ivory Coast's former colonial power issued a warning advising all French citizens to leave the country. West African heads of state are meeting shortly to discuss developments in Ivory Coast following the disputed Presidential election. A spokesman for the Regional Groupings, ECOWAS, said the summit in Nigeria will focus on how best to secure a transfer of power in Ivory Coast to the man accepted by ECOWAS and the United Nations as the election winner Allassane Quattara.
