France has denounced the spiral of violence between Hamas and Israel after the number of Palestinians killed in recent clashes rose to 18. A Foreign Ministry spokesman said yesterday France called on the parties to do everything to break this spiral of violence. It condemns the escalation of violence that in recent days led to rockets and mortars being fired into southern Israel. The spokesman said, the situation today underlined the urgent need to achieve a negotiated settlement of the conflict.
