Fourteen killed and 35 others missing in flood-hit China

In China, the flood waters have inundated large areas of the southwest province, killing 14 people and leaving 35 others missing. At least 45,000 people have also been forced to evacuate their homes. The state-run Xinhua news agency quoting county's official sources said that power, water supplies and telecommunication services were disrupted in several towns of the Wangmo County of Guizhou Province. According to reports, the floods have damaged 5,500 hectares of cropland and washed away more than 500 vehicles. More than 100 homes have been toppled and roads and bridges have been destroyed. The local government has mobilised more than 330 soldiers and policemen to clean up roads hoping to restore traffic. The provincial civil affairs bureau has said that the rain-triggered floods have so far hit 11 cities and counties across Guizhou Province, affecting at least 270,000 people.
