A four tier system of weather forecast and information system has been planned for the Commonwealth Games where a very short range weather forecasting will be used for the first time. This will cover a very short range weather forecasting covering very specific geographical area. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi today, Dr. Ajit Tyagi, Director General of India Meteorological Department said the weather conditions in and around Delhi will be monitored round the clock with the help of a network of 35 Automatic Weather Stations installed in the region. He said IMD will provide venue specific nowcasts round the clock during the Games. He said a state of the art Doppler weather Radar has been established at Delhi for monitoring the development and movement of any cloud in the region. He said a GPS based system has been installed in Delhi to provide upper air observations. He a 24 hour control room will be established in the National Weather Forecast Centre, Mausam Bhavan to provide these services.
