Four succumbed to deadly Encephalitis in UP

In Uttar Pradesh, four people have succumbed to the deadly Encephalitis in Gorakhpur during past twenty four hours. AIR Gorakhpur correspondent reports that with this the death toll due to the disease has mounted to 414 this year. As many as 309 encephalitis patients are being treated in Medical College and various district hospitals of Gorakhpur and Basti divisions.The cases of Dengue are also on rise in various districts of the state. One patient has succumbed to the disease in Varanasi while several patients are admitted in various hospitals of Lucknow, Varanasi and Gorakhpur.More than three hundred patients of Dengue fever have so far been detected across the state. A state government official told AIR correspondent that the state government has decided to establish blood separation unit in seven districts including Meerut, Jhansi, Bareilly, Agra, Allahabad, Gorakhpur and Saharanpur to provide platelets to the Dengue patients. Our correspondent reports that the Blood Banks in the affected districts are running short of platelets. The government has Blood Separation Units only in Lucknow, Varanasi and Kanpur.
