In Uttar Pradesh ahead of the crucial area Panchayat elections, four leaders including Chief Whip of Samajwadi Party in Lok Sabha Shailendra Kumar and 3 MLAs were arrested in Pratapgarh district. One newly elected area Panchayat Member in Unnao district has also been held. Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav announced to bring privilege motion in parliament and State Assembly and Legislative Council against the arrests made at the behest of the state government. Police has also arrested 7 supporters of Samajwadi Party leaders from Pratapgarh. AIR Lucknow correspondent reports controversial MLA from Kunda Raja Bhaiyya, MLA Vinod Saroj and MLC Akshay Pratap Singh along with MP were arrested in the wee hours from Kunda area. District Chief of Police O P Sagar has said that these arrests were made after FIRs were registered against them on different charges of attempt to murder, rioting and kidnapping by a local BSP leader. Police has also lodged cross FIR against BSP leader under SC/ST Act on the report of MLA Vinod Kumar Saroj. Additional security forces have been deployed at Kunda to maintain law and order. Samajwadi Party alleged that these arrests were made in view of the coming Panchayat elections to be held on 22nd of this month. Nominations for elections are slated on tomorrow.
