Four pacts were signed between India and Malawi at the end of delegation level talks in New Delhi to deepen the cooperation in the fields of Health, rural development and mineral resources between the two countries. The President of Malavi Bingu wa Mutharika and the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh held discussions on a host of issues for about an hour at Hydrabad house in New Delhi.Earlier Bingu wa Mutharika was accorded ceremonial reception at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. In his brief comment on the occasion he sought to strengthen bilateral relations with India. Mr. Mutharika while lauding India's contribution in the field of infrastructure, information and technology, medicine, trade and agriculture, said that these areas are of priority to African development in general and to Malawi in particular. AIR correspondent reports, this is Mutharika's first visit to India as President of his country. He had studied at the University of Delhi in the 1960s. He is leading a team of six ministers of his cabinet as well as a large business delegation. During his stay in Delhi, he will call on President Pratibha Devisingh Patil, who will host a banquet in his honour. He will also meet Vice-President Mohammed Hamid Ansari. External Affairs Minister S M Krishna and Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj will call on the visiting dignitary.
