Four militants killed in Drone attack in NWFP

In Pakistan, at least four militants have been killed in a drone strike in the North Waziristan Agency. The attack took place today when two missiles fired by a drone hit the militants' compound in Ahmadkhel village in the west of Miranshah. The compound and a vehicle were also destroyed in the drone strike.AIR correspondent Santosh Kumar reports that the twin incidents happened on a day which marks the completion of nine years of Taliban’s removal from power in 2001. The first incident happened during early hours when militants launched attack on Jalalabad airbase. At least eight militants were killed in the ensuing gunfight which lasted for more than two hours. Another explosion in northern Kunduz province killed eight people. The incidents mark an escalation in violence before next week’s NATO summit in Lisbon where Afghanistan strategy will come up for discussion. NATO commanders in Afghanistan have maintained that last six months have seen reversal of Taliban momentum but the militants are carrying attacks to belie such claims.
