Four killed in fresh violence in Assam, indefinite curfew continues in Chirang

In Assam, indefinite curfew continued in the entire Chirang district. District administration clamped curfew yesterday after mob attacked public bus and injured three people on National Highway at Bortola in Chirang.

Security forces resorted to blank firing to control the errant mob. Police also recovered four bodies, two each in Kokrajhar and Chirang district.

With this, the death toll has gone up to 60 in recent violence. Police apprehended 11 miscreants yesterday in connection with attacking public vehicles and other violence activities.

Official sources said that the situation is tense, but under control. A total of 117 doctors along with Para- medical staffs and ambulances have been deployed in the relief camps. More than 94 thousand people have been diagnosed with various ailments so far.

A team of National Human Rights Commission is arriving today to take stock of the relief and rehabilitations measures being undertaken at relief camps.
