Four Indians shuttlers enter quarterfinals of Hong Kong Open

Four Indians – Saina Nehwal, P V Sindhu, Ajay Jayaram and Sameer Verma – have entered the quarterfinals of the singles event at the Hong Kong Open Super Series badminton tournament. In the pre-quarterfinals of the Women' section today, while fifth seeded Saina defeated Sayaka Sato of Japan in three games 21-18, 9-21, 21-16. Rio Olympics silver medallist Sindhu overcame Hsu Ya Ching of Chinese Taipeh in straight games 21-10, 21-14. In the men's singles, while Ajay Jayaram defeated Huang Yuxiang of China 21-18, 21-19, Sameer Verma got rid of Japanese Kazumasa Sakai in three games 19-21, 21-15, 21-11. However, H S Prannoy bowed out after losing to Chong Wei Feng of Malaysia in three games.
