Today is Maha Saptami, the beginning of the four-day long Durga Puja festival of the Bengalis. The festival kicked-off on Wednesday evening with the invocation of Devi Durga on Maha Sashti day. AIR Kolkata Correspondent reports that the entire metropolis is hit by Puja fever as brilliantly decorated pandals have been set up from one end to other parts of the city. Beating of drums and blowing of microphones have given extra punch to the entire atmosphere. To capture heavy rush of passengers, Eastern, South-Eastern and Metro Railways and State Transport Corporation have decided to run round the clock services during the Puja days. Elaborate deployment of police personnel has been made to maintain law and order.
