The Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Mr. Mahadeo Singh Khandela today laid the foundation stone of the Gauhati University Bypass and 2-lane Flyover at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport junction on the National Highway 37 at Borjhar, on the outskirts of Guwahati city.<br/><br/>Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Khandela said the proposed projects would accommodate the additional airport bound traffic, relieve the university area from traffic congestion and provide an alternative high speed route from Rakhaldubi to Guwahati in addition to the East-West Corridor.<br/><br/>The Union Minister said that the Centre has given more thrust on providing all-weather roads to accelerate the pace of development in the North Eastern region. He said the Centre’s ambitious East West Corridor project in the region has been progressing at a good pace barring a few stretches in North Cachar district of Assam. He urged the Assam Chief Minister to provide full security to various agencies implementing various road projects in North Cachar Hills district and to resolve the issues of land acquisition and forest clearance to ensure speedy construction of road network in the State.<br/><br/>Dwelling at length on the various road projects in the region, Mr. Khandela said works under East West Corridor in the region amounting to 5217 crore rupees has already been allocated.<br/><br/>Addressing the gathering, Assam Chief Minister Mr. Tarun Gogoi said that a long-felt demand of the local people and the Gauhati University authorities has been fulfilled with the laying of foundation stone of Gauhati University Bypass and 2-lane Flyover.
