Forty-three members of Rajya Sabha take oath today

Forty-three members of the Rajya Sabha from 13 states took oath on the first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament today. They include newly elected, re-elected and one nominated member. Fourteen of them belong to BJP, seven each to Congress and Samajwadi Party, three BJD, two each to RJD, JD(U) and DMK, one each to BSP, NCP, Shiromani Akali Dal, Shiv Sena and Telugu Desam Party. Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari, who administered the oath welcomed the members and said they are familiar faces, well-versed with the rules, procedures and conventions of the House.<br/><br/>Later, Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced the newly inducted Cabinet colleagues to the House. The House also paid tributes to those who were killed in terror attacks in Istanbul, Kabul, Karada in Central Baghdad, Dhaka, Jeddah, Madina and Nice. The Chairman expressed grief over the loss of precious lives and injury to the people in natural calamities in several parts of the country including Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Maharashtra, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Himachal Pradesh.<br/><br/>The House felicitated Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) for successful flight testing of re-usable launch vehicle technology demonstrator (RLV-TD). Mr Ansari said the development of the technology has added yet another milestone in the success story of India's Space Programme. He said in yet another achievement, ISRO scripted history by successfully launching 20 satellites together including India's earth observation Cartosa-2 series satellites.
