A former US diplomat has been sentenced to two years in prison in South Korea for swindling a local woman. Dario Tomas, an American of Philippine descent, was convicted of defrauding the woman in the southern city of Busan out of nearly Two Lakh dollar between 2007 and 2008. Prosecutors said he told the woman the money would be used to pursue investment opportunities in the Philippines. South Korea's Yonhap news agency said Tomas was working for the U.S. Homeland Security department in Busan at the time of the swindle. Tomas was arrested last year in the Philippines, where he fled during the investigation, and was handed over to South Korean authorities. The United States stripped him of his diplomatic immunity.
