<span style="color: #222222;">Former Union Minister and former Speaker of Tamilnadu Assembly S.Muthaiah passed away due to illness in Madurai today, September 21. He was 76. Muthaiah was elected as a member of the legislative Assembly from Sedappati Constituency in Madurai district from  1977 to 1989. </span><br />''<br />''From 1991 to 1996 he served as the Speaker of the Tamilnadu Assembly from 1991- 1996 during the late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa regime. He also served as a Union Minister for surface transport from 19th March 1998 to April 8, 1998. <br />''<br />''<span style="color: #222222;">He was elected from Periyakulam Constituency to the Lok Sabha during the period. He joined the DMK in 2008 and became the office bearer of the DMK electoral wing.</span><br />
