Former Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has demanded snap elections to the Parliament saying that the local body election results have clearly shown that the government led by President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has lost the popular mandate. <br/><br/>Speaking to the media in Colombo on Monday, Mr Rajapaksa demanded that government bring a resolution to dissolve the parliament. He also called for an end to executive presidency which President Maithripala Sirisena has promised after his election in 2015. <br/><br/>Mr Rajapaksa said that his victory is a movement for political and economic change and the movement is on its onward march. The former President said people want a functioning government, economic progress, the maintenance of Sri Lanka's unity and integrity and the safeguarding of its armed forces.
