Former Punjab CM warns state Police on atrocities against public

Former Chief Minister of Punjab, Capt. Amrinder Singh has assured that if come to power again in the state, the Congress will setup a high powered committee to look into the issues of atrocities against public including Congressmen by the state police on the behest of Akali govt. and those police officers involved in atrocities will be firmly dealt with. He warned that those police officers who think that such matters will be over with the passage of time would not be spared. He even said that such police officers and other police personnel will be dealt under Section 311 of the Constitution which gives power to dismiss the faulty police officers.

Capt. Amrinder was in Jalandhar on Monday to meet hundreds of people from Bholath in Kapurthala who have become victim of political vendetta allegedly unleashed by the Punjab govt. These people were mobilised by the Bholath MLA, Mr. Sukhpal Singh Khaira. Capt. Amrinder who himself handed over the copies of more than 10,000 First Information Report (FIRs) relating to atrocities to the Election Commission of India before the last Parliamentary Elections, said that the matter of atrocities had been taken up to the level of Prime Minister and Home Minister and the Chief Minister of Punjab has been informed by the Centre about it but still the atrocities are going on.

The senior Congress leader said that the anger amongst public is brewing up against the Akali govt. and Akalis would have to face the music in the next assembly elections. Meanwhile, Mr Khaira has sent a written request to Chief Minister Mr. Prakash Singh Badal to introspect his inner conscience on the issue of unabated political vendetta unleashed in Punjab allegedly at his own instance through Punjab Police. The request is also attached with the lists of false cases registered against Congressmen of his constituency.
