Former Nepal PM Bhattarai dead

Former Prime Minister of Nepal and founding member of Nepali Congress Krishna Prasad Bhattarai has passed away. The 87-year-old leader had been undergoing treatment for the last three weeks at a hospital in Kathmandu. Bhattarai had been admitted to hospital after he complained of respiratory and swelling problems. His condition deteriorated on Wednesday. Born at Varanasi on December 22, 1924, he had graduated from the Banaras Hindu University. Bhattarai's active political life stated at the age of 18 after he joined Quit India movement in 1942. He was one of the founder-member of the Nepali Rashtriya Congress, which was later amalgamated to the Nepali Congress. He was appointed Prime Minister in Feb 1990 along with Cabinet of 10 ministers, representing of NC, CPN-ULF, intellectuals and King’s nominees. He resigned from the post of Prime Minister in March 2000 following a no thrust motion.
