Former LTTE leader Karuna Amman informs CID he is unable to provide statement

<span style="color: #222222;">In Sri Lanka, former LTTE leader Karuna Amman informed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) that he is currently unable to provide a statement.<br />'' <br />'' He was supposed to make a statement today over a controversial speech made last week glorifying the killing of Sri Lankan soldiers during his time as an LTTE militant.<br />'' <br />'' The speech was  criticised widely in political circles leading to acting IGP directing the CID to launch investigations about the speech.<br />'' <br />'' The former LTTE militant, who had joined politics after the LTTE was decimated, informed the CID that he is unable to provide a statement as he is unwell and he will record a statement once he recovers.<br />'' <br />'' The former LTTE commander had left the terrorist organization in 2006 to help Sri Lankan army fight LTTE which ultimately led to its defeat in 2009.<br />'' <br />'' Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman had also floated the Tamil United Freedom Front (TUFF) couple of years back and is contesting the upcoming parliamentary elections.<br />'' <br />'' In his controversial speech, he has mentioned that he killed some 2000 to 3000 Sri Lankan army personnel in one night at Elephant Pass adding it is certainly higher than the number of lives coronavirus has claimed in Sri Lanka.<br />'' <br />'' Political opposition in Sri Lanka has targeted government over the speech while the government tried to distance itself from it.<br />'' <br />''<br />''Karuna earlier said that his statement was misinterpreted.</span>
