Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhajan Lal is dead. He was 80. He died of heart attack at a private hospital Hissar in Haryana today after he was admitted there following a severe stroke. He was survived by his wife Jasma Devi, two sons – Chander Mohan Bishnoi elder son and former Deputy Chief Minister of Haryana and Kuldeep Bishnoi and daughter daughter Roshni.The former congress veteran born in the undivided Punjab before partition in the Bahawalpur district, now in Pakistan.He remained Chief Minister of Haryana thrice for 12 years. He was elected from Adampur constituency for the first time in 1968 when midterm elections were held in the state. He retained the Adampur seat for 12 consecutive terms except once when his wife Jasma Devi was elected from Adampur.He had also served as a Union cabinet minister at the centre, holding the Agriculture and Environments Forest portfolios when Rajiv Gandhi was the Prime Minister.He and his son Kuldeep Bshnoi, President of Haryana Janhit Congress left the Indian National Congress after the victory of party in 2005 Vidhan Sabha elections, which caused major rift in the state unit of party over Chiefministership.Haryan Chief Minister Bhupender Singh Hooda has expressed grief and sorrow on his sad demise.
