Ranjan Mathai has been appointed India's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. He will succeed noted economist and veteran diplomat Dr Jaimini Bhagwati.
After a two-year stint as Foreign Secretary, Mr Mathai handed over the charge to his successor Sujatha Singh in July this year.
A 1974-batch Indian Foreign Service Officer, Mr Mathai served in Indian missions in Vienna, Colombo, Washington, Tehran, Brussels, Tel Aviv, Doha, London and Paris in various capacities.
