In Tamil Nadu, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption has been conducting raids in several places belonging to former State Ministers and DMK leaders.In a press note issued in Chennai today, the Directorate has informed that raids were conducted at eight places belonging to former DMK Minister Mr. I.Periasamy and his wife at Dindigul. Based on the outcome of the detailed enquiry, searches were conducted as an essential part of investigation. The allegation is that he had accumulated movable and immovable assets to the tune of Rs.1 crore and 19 lakh.In another development, the Directorate has registered a case against Mr.Suresh Rajan, former State Minister for Tourism and Registration, his parents and wife at Kanyakumari. The allegation is that he had accumulated assets to the tune of Rs.14 crore isproportionate to his known sources of income during the period 2006 to 2011 when he was Minister. The case is now posted to 5th July for the appearance of the accused.The erstwhile DMK leaders continue to face the heat as the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption officials have once again begun their searches on allegations of amassing wealth during their five year tenure as Ministers.None of the DMK top guns including former Ministers Mr.Durai Murugan, Mr. Ponmudy, Mr.Paruthi Ilam Vazhuthi, Mr.Suresh Rajan have been spared. The raids on the DMK leaders weretemporarily halted due to the Assembly session.In the last two days DMK strongmen Mr.Veerapandi Arumugam and Mr.I.Periasamy have been facing raids at their places. The DMK has maintained that the raids are a sham and to divert the attention of the people from pressing issues including massive power cuts and price rise.
