In Tamil Nadu, former DMK Minister Veerapandi Arumugam and a party MLA were arrested today in land grabbing cases. Their leader and Former Deputy Chief Minster M K Stalin was detained during a stir but was released later. Arumugham was arrested by Salem Police in a land grabbing case filed against him and he was produced before the Salem Judicial Magistrate court. He was remanded to 15 days judicial custody and taken to Coimbatore central prison. In another incident, DMK MLA Anbhazhagan was taken into police custody by Tirupur Police in Chennai today in a separate land grabbing case. He has been taken to Tirupur for investigation. M K Stalin was arrested at Tiruvarur along with party workers, while participating in a roadblock to protest the arrest of DMK District secretary Poondi Kalaivanan. He said, arrests made all over Tamil Nadu to sabotage the protest strike on Monday announced by DMK. Sporadic protests were reported in many parts of Tamil Nadu as news spread about the arrest. DMK chief M Karunanidhi has accused the Jayalalithaa Government of indulging in political vendetta. AIR correspondent reports, the State Government has set up a separate police cell to deal with land grabbing cases. So far, more than one thousand grabbing complaints have been received.
