Former Director General(News) of All India Radio, Dipesh Chandra Bhowmick died in Kolkata this evening after a brief illness. He was 79. Bhowmick also served as a Chief of DD News. <br/><br/>He also worked at various departments under Information and Broadcasting ministry in different capacities. <br/><br/>He was the in-charge of Regional News Unit of Kolkata during the Bangladesh war in 1971 when AIR played a vital role in boosting the morale of Indian soldiers through its various news-based programmes.
