Former Chief Justice of India Altamas Kabir passed away at a Kolkata hospital today. A senior hospital official told a news agency that the Retired Justice Kabir was suffering from kidney ailment and related complications. He breathed his last at 2.52 PM.<br/><br/>Kabir was appointed as the Chief Justice of India on September 29, 2012 and retired on July 19, 2013. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed deep condolences at the demise of former Chief Justice of India Altamas Kabir. In her condolence message, Banerjee said with the passing away of Kabir the country has lost a legal luminary.
