In the United States, the former Chief Executive of Enron could be released from prison nearly a decade earlier than expected. Jeffrey Skilling presided over Enron when it became embroiled in one of the biggest corporate frauds in US history. Skilling's 24-year sentence could come down to 14, now that he has agreed to stop appealing against his conviction. Thousands of workers lost their jobs and retirement savings when Enron collapsed in 2001.The agreement between Skilling and federal prosecutors would also allow more than 40 million dollar seized from him to be distributed to the victims of the Enron fraud.
