The former Assam Minister and Press Adviser to the State Chief Minister, Mr. Deba Bora died in a road mishap at Rangajan, near the Kaziranga National Park early Thursday morning. The accident occurred when his car lost control and hit a parking truck on the roadside on the National Highway number 31. Bora along with family was proceeding to his home town Jorhat from Guwahati to join a press conference. Bora died on-the-spot while his wife and security guard sustained serious injuries and they have been admitted to the Jorhat medical College and Hospital. He was around 55. Late Deba Bora, a prominent leader of the student movement in the state during eighties, became the Agriculture Minister in the first tenure of the Prafulla Kumar Mahanta-led Asom Gana Parishad Government in Assam during 1986 to 1991. He stayed away from active politics for a few years and became the Editor of the popular vernacular Assamese daily newspaper ‘Dainik Janambhumi’ published from Jorhat. Later, Mr. Bora acted as the Press Adviser to the Assam Chief Minister Mr. Tarun Gogoi during last two consecutive terms since 2001. He resigned from the post following ensuing Assembly elections in the State last month. The ruling Congress has announced to suspended all its campaign programmes on Thursday to condole the death of Mr. Deba Bora. The Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and several leaders of the State have expressed shock and dismay at the untimely and sudden death of Mr. Deba Bora. The Journalist organizations of the State have also condoled the death of Mr. Bora.
