Former Argentine President Nestor Kirchner passes away

Former Argentine president Nestor Kirchner, the current president's husband and one of the country's most powerful politicians, has died. Mr Kirchner's doctor said it was a sudden death. Mr. Kirchner had undergone two arterial procedures earlier this year. Mr Kirchner, considered president Cristina Fernandez's closest adviser in hergovernment, had been expected to run again for president in next year's election. He was president of Argentina from 2003 till 2007. During that time Mr Kirchner oversaw the restructuring of his country's debt, which ballooned during a financial crisis in 2001.
