In Odisha, 34 tribal poachers have been arrested in Barahakamuda in the world-famous Similipal Tiger Reserve Forests in Mayurbhanj district, about 350 km from Bhubaneswar. As many as 13 country guns, 80 bows and arrows and 80 kg of sambar meat have been seized from them. AIR Correspondent reports, more than 500 armed poachers have entered Similipal Tiger Reserve ahead of the Akhanda Shikar, the traditional mass hunting by the tribals. The arrests came during intensified crackdown by forest department security personnel. The arrested poachers have been sent to Udala Sub-Jail in Mayurbhanj district after the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate of Udala rejected their bail pleas.
