The number of foreign tourists availing Visa on Arrival, VoA scheme has registered 72 per cent increase in the month of January this year as against the same period last year.
According to an official release, a total of 1359 tourists were issued VoA as compared to the 790 foreigners who availed the facility under the scheme during the same period last year.As a facilitative measure to attract more foreign tourists, the government had launched Visa on Arrival scheme in January 2010 for citizens of five countries including Finland, Japan, Luxembourg and Singapore.
After that ,the Government had extended the scheme to six more countries including Combodia, Indonesia, Vietnam and Philippines.
Currently the VoA facility is available in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata airports.
