Ahead of the meeting of the Nuclear Suppliers' Group, NSG, in Seoul on 24th of this month, Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar visited China this week to step up India's efforts to get China's backing for membership to the NSG.<br/><br/>MEA Sources said, Mr Jaishankar was in Beijing on June 16th and 17th and held bilateral consultations with his Chinese counterpart. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent quoting MEA sources reports, during the meeting between both Foreign Secretaries all major issues including India's NSG membership were discussed.<br/><br/>China is leading the opposition to India joining the 48-nation group that trades in advanced nuclear material and technology while restricting the sale of items that can be used to make nuclear arms.<br/><br/>Mr Jaishankar's meeting also comes after the visit of President Pranab Mukherjee to China in the last week of May when the latter had taken up the issue with the top Chinese leadership.<br/>Foreign secretary's meeting with Chinese leaders comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, where he is likely to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on June 23rd during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, SCO summit meeting and take up the issue.
