Foreign Secretary S.Jaishankar meets Sri Lankan president

Foreign Secretary S.Jaishankar, currently on three-day visit to Colombo, today met Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to discuss economic cooperation and other bilateral issues. He also met Sri Lankan Strategic Development and International Trade Minister Malik Samarawickrama to explore possibilities of improving trade relations between the two neighbours.<br/><br/>Mr. Jaishankar, who is leading a high-level business delegation will be holding talks tomorrow with Sri Lankan private and public sector enterprises to chalk out areas of mutual cooperation and investment. Top officials from public sector companies such as GAIL, NTPC and IOC are part of the delegation to explore opportunities in areas such as transport, energy and infrastructure.<br/><br/>Sri Lanka has been inviting foreign companies to invest in the country in a bid to boost exports and provide momentum to growth, recovering from a three-decade long ethnic war. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, during his visit to India, earlier this month, had discussed investment with Indian Ministries in the field of LNG power plant, oil refinery, railway and highway construction etc.
