Foreign Secretary Mr S Jaishankar today held wide ranging discussions with Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen in Male. According to a press statement issued by the office of President of Maldives, Abdulla Yameen briefed Mr Jaishankar on the political developments in the Maldives and secured India's backing in domestic and international affairs. The statement adds that they discussed ways on improving cooperation in fields such as economy, health and regional anti-terrorism efforts.<br/><br/>Foreign Secretary Jaishankar, who reached Male on a one-day tour to Maldives, was greeted on arrival at the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport by his Maldivian counterpart Ali Naseer Mohamed. He later met foreign minister Dhunya Maumoon. Mr Jaishankar will depart for Colombo tomorrow morning for the second leg of his two nation tour.
