Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar briefed a parliamentary panel on the issue of Sino-India standoff at the border tri-junction with Bhutan this afternoon. <br/><br/>The panel is chaired by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor of which Party Vice President Rahul Gandhi is also a member. <br/><br/>Dr Jaishankar is understood to have told the committee that China's stand on the recent Dokalam dispute in Sikkim sector has been unusually aggressive and articulate. <br/><br/>He is also believed to have informed the committee that India is engaged with China in defusing tension through diplomatic channels. <br/><br/>Our correspondent reports that there has been tension in the area for the past three weeks after a Chinese Army construction party attempted to build a road there. Doka La is the Indian name for the region which Bhutan recognises as Dokalam, while China claims it as part of its Donglang region. <br/><br/>Last week, a meeting was called by the government to brief opposition parties on the issue of standoff. The government had told opposition leaders that China is constructing roads near the international border, hampering the country's strategic interests.
