New Delhi and Dhaka are working together to ensure that some significant agreements are signed during the visit of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to India. The foreign Secretaries of the two countries met in Dhaka today and reviewed the progress made on the areas of co-operation agreed upon in the joint statement issued after the visit of Foreign minister Dipu Moni to India in September this year.Talking to reporters after the meeting , Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao said that New Delhi attached "highest importance" to its ties with Dhaka and her visit is in the context of preparations for a very significant visit of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to India next month. Her Bangladesh counterpart Mohamed Mijarul Quayes described the talks as constructive and stressed that both the countries are committed to materializing the understanding reached by the foreign ministers of the two countries earlier this year. The Foreign Secretary also called on the Foreign Minister Dipu Moni , and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. She will also meet the Leader of the Opposition Khaleda Zia later in the evening.In the Joint statement issued in September, India had agreed to facilitate Bangladesh ‘s transit to Nepal and Bhutan while Dhaka agreed to allow Ashuganj as a new port of call to transport equipment to the Paltana power project in Tripura. Bangladesh is also hopeful of India's support for some railway projects including the construction of a new railway link between Akhaura and Agartala.
